It's all going in the right direction and means you will be getting skills and expertise in more areas. The team has been working in the background and we are going to be bringing you some really great stuff over next year. Do take a look at the calendar of monthly tele-seminar topics and book early to register your place. They are all free and all you need to do is call from your home or workplace and listen.

So from me and all of the team here have a great New Year.

Personal Reflections

One of the things I am planning on next year is to have more laughter, fun and comedy in my life. I spend a great deal of time with people both in treatment and out and what I notice is how little we laugh.

Laughter elevates serotonin in our body - a chemical that makes us feel good. People strive to feel good and some do it by alcohol, drugs and/or food all of which have side effects if taken to excess. But laughter doesn't! It's free, easy and very infectious.

There are laughter groups set up all around the world by Madan Kataria, an Indian doctor. He uses simple techniques to help us laugh and encourages everyone to laugh more.

So when was the last time you had a really good 'belly laugh?' Make having more laughter in your life a goal for 2008!

Planning Your 2008 Health Calendar

Calendar (David Seah)So what does your 2008 health calendar look like?

Do you even have one?!

These days we live our lives by the calendar – school holidays, birthdays, work – we have them all neatly booked and organised. So why should your health be any different? A little prior planning can help enormously, so why not have a go this year. A good annual health plan can not only help you to achieve goals, but also make you feel a lot better about the process of keeping healthy and generally more in control. There are three areas to take into consideration:

Jane BarnetSteam Away that Cold

Massage and Aromatherapist Jane Barnett

It’s the time of year when everyone seems to have coughs & colds! Luckily I’m one of those people who rarely pick up colds or flu, and I’m convinced it’s due to my contact with essential oils on a daily basis, as they help boost my immune system.

As aromatherapy is a great way of helping yourself for a number of different conditions...here’s some simple yet effective methods for you to use in order to help beat the winter chills!

Baths
Run a bath to the required depth & temperature, (tip: do not add oils whilst running the water into the bath, as the oils may evaporate before you can benefit from them). Then add a few drops of your chosen oil, lavender, tea tree, ginger or cinnamon are good ones to use. (tip: do not add bubble bath, as the bubbles ‘trap’ the essential oils, and therefore the oils cannot disperse properly).

InhalationFace Steam

Choose one of the following oils, eucalyptus, peppermint, tea tree, rosemary, ginger or lavender and add a few drops to a cup of hot water. Inhale the steam.

If you have a little more time on your hands why not try a face bath – blend one of the following synergistic blends and add to a bowl of hot water.

2 drops eucalyptus globules, 1 drop tea tree, 2 drops rosemary

OR

2 drops lavender, 2 drops tea tree, 1 drop lemon
Place a towel over your head and inhale the steam.

Caution: do not apply essential oils directly to the skin.

Which Remedy?

There are so many good ones on the market but which one is the best to go for...?

I've put together some tips together for you on surviving the festive season. Remember you can use these throughout the year!

Too much food!

Take 20mls of Gallexier before and after your meal to ease the digestion. If you don't have this then add to one mug 2 peppermint teabags and chamomile teabag - leave to infuse for about 10-15mins then drink.

Too much alcohol!

If you know you are going to be drinking a lot then take some 2x 1000mg of Evening Primrose Oil capsules before going out. You can use fish oil capsules as substitutes. You can also take these the next morning too.

Get Herbs Hands Healing's Milk Thistle and Dandelion Tincture. It's got a lot of other herbs in it too to help the liver. Add half to one teaspoon of this to some fresh orange juice the next day and take another two doses again the same day. Do this for the next 3 days.

Too much stress!

Give yourself some time out amongst the busy-ness. A walk, a bath or even watching a funny film but you must get those happy chemicals running in your body and the only way to do that is to do something you enjoy that gives you space to chill, have fun and relax. Be disciplined delegate where you can and take that half hour out of the day for you.

You can purchase products from the Nutri Centre or any good quality health food shop.

Rumana runs a Walk In Clinic at the Nutri Centre, Tesco Kingston Park Newcastle every Friday 2-6pm. Pop in for a free 10 min consultation.
