Two excellent pieces of research worth knowing about: a) diet and exercise can improve breast cancer survival rates read more on the Cancer UK website and b) the herb Echinacea could reduce getting colds by over 50% - published recently in the Lancet medical journal. You can read about Echinacea on the BBC website. In this issue What do your eyes say about you? With Love
Personal Reflections One thing about running a retreat is the group at the start always seems different by the end. The change is quite amazing, not only is the frazzled look on arrival changed but some fundamental shifts in thinking, lifestyle and health have occured. Its that most deserved space and time to do the things we all talk about doing that only few of us manage to. I believe it's the combination of factors that make the shifts happen.
For me the feedback on how everyone benefitted from the week was a real pleasure to read. Seeing the transformation in individuals is a joy in itself. It's why I do the work I do. Here is some of the feedback: "The programme was excellent! Everything was so well organised. The food was the best I've tasted. The therapists are well experienced and the yoga was fantastic even for those not too experienced." Elaine Ponte "The venue was perfect. It has everything! The individual casitas are really great and homely, the swimming pool is fab and the main house is great for us all getting together, doing yoga, talking and sharing food. The timetable and venue are very well suited. Please don't change it." Deborah Barnes "Chance to relax and detox physically and emotionally with help of yoga, therapies and trips out. A very balanced programme." Janet Harris "It is my second time and it was even more thorough that the first! Excellent. I have loved every minute. It's like being reborn - like starting the rest of your life." Sam Dixon "It allowed me space to be and do my paintings as well as joining in. I was also able to resolve some issues. I left a lot of "stuff" on the mountains!" Val Leach "The staff and company have made the week. I feel relaxed and have learned some things about diet that will hopefully have a longer term effect." Pat Harrison "Gained knowledge about how I can help myself through nutrition and yoga. This week has helped me re-adjust previous habits and create healthier ones. It's a space to re-connect with the self." Kate Daykin "It is difficult to express how beneficial this week has been for me. It has given me time to look into myself and learn about me! The nutritional advice and the inspirations will enable me to make positive changes. I felt very supported and encouraged by everyone. I am learning to love myself for who I am. Thank you so much Rumana, Simon, Paul, Fi and Alan." Kathryn Bourne "The detox is well balanced with the yoga. The treatments also a good complement to the week. A very good programme, well thought out and fun too. A really precious week." Aarti Parajia What Do Your Eyes Say About You?

Chemical Sunshine OH MY GOD!!!!!!!! This is horrific...I have been tangoed!!! I cannot possibly go out tonight looking like this. I will NEVER, repeat, NEVER have another... On the Road to Nowhere?
As a Life and Business Coach, I often come across people who are re-looking at their careers. Perhaps, having been moving along in one profession since University or College and then re-evaluating ones motivations and career direction, or possibly being made redundant and feeling forced into reflection. It can be an insidious realisation or a big wake up where one realises that they cannot bear the idea of continuing along this journey until retirement! This in fact happened to me. I had been in the same profession for 16 years and could not stomach the idea of doing more of the same until age 60-65!! So, I looked at my transferable skills, my vision for my life and finally changed careers. From having worked as a therapist in the NHS, I progressed to running my own company Viva Coaching and Training. More recently specialising in job-search skills coaching for those who have been made redundant. It's the best decision I made! For some, this can be a scary time; however it can also be very exciting. An opportunity to look at your bigger life purpose, passions and career objectives in order to make the second part of your life one that re-ignites your spark! Are you reaching that similar crossroad? I would be delighted to assist you in seeking that clarity and re-focus, in order to create the results that motivate you to feel inspired once again! There are so many good ones on the market but which one is the best to go for...? You may have heard some reports on coconut oil recently and it's positive benefits. It is receiving some good claims because of the research that has principally been done by Dr Mary Enig a world leading expert on fats and oils. Although it is an oil high in saturated fats, research is showing us saturated fats differ and they are beneficial to health in moderation. Coconut oil is is particularly good because it is high in medium chain fatty acids particularly lauric acid. These are similar to the fats found in mothers milk. Coconut oil is being found to help in many ways:
You need to be taking 3-4 tablespoons a day in your cooking for therapeutic effect. Give it a try and see how you get on. The price ranges from £3 to £15! So long as it's organic and extra virgin it doesn't matter, just make sure its not bleached, refined or deodorised. If you want to read more then read Dr Bruce Fife's book The Healing Miracles of Coconut Oil (Some companies may provide discounts if you state referred by practitioner Rumana Zahn when purchasing).
