Dear All

September and October are times for me when I do my planning for next year and I'm pleased to say the dates for courses and retreats have been finalised at last. So do check out the Calendar and if you wish to book onto next years retreat in Spain please book early as places are already filling up fast!

A really interesting time for me this month was teaching a group of senior executives not my usual client group of women, this group were all men! Although I do see men in my clinic it's a little unusual for me to run such a training session specifically requested for men by men and I can only say it was such fun. Although health is a topic close to many women's hearts, it was encouraging to see men taking such a proactive part in their own health and wellbeing and I am certain there are many more out there...

I have just been elected as a council member for the Association of Master Herbalists. They are one of the leading herbal associations in the UK setting standards and promoting good practice amongst herbalists. So I feel proud to be representing such an organisation. I will of course be writing to let you know all the things that are happening at a governmental level (OK I know, yawn) sorry it's quite an important time for herbal medicine as it is currently undergoing regulation and there are many working hard to ensure public safety is met but that herbal practitioners get rights to work traditionally too.

The leaves are turning.

Hope you enjoy the autumn!

Rumana

Inspirational Story

I love your stories and so do others. If you have something to share please write in.

Here is a testimonial sent in by a client who has had an amazing healing journey. I was very moved by her words - a truly inspirational woman.

By Sam Dixon, 31, Sales and Marketing Manager

"Thank you just does not cover it. There are barely words profound enough to express my gratitude. For me Rumana has been the switch that has turned on a light inside of my head.

Since being a teenager I have struggled in an ongoing fight with bulimia, my weight, hard drug abuse, depression and a string of abusive relationships. As a result of my inability to deal with my feelings about my own self I had spent the whole of my adult life on various anti depressants. I visited the doctor on a weekly basis with some new ailment that had cropped up as a result of my abusive behaviour and self medicating!

My breaking point was long overdue and came one Sunday morning earlier this year...

Your Health Goals

We are approaching the end of the year. How have you been working through your health goals? Did you set any this year? If not, think of three things you'd love to do to improve your health and write them down. You don't have to wait until the New Year to write these! Use your symptoms to guide you. I generally break them down into external and internal symptoms.

External indicators - hair, skin, nails, weight, brightness of eyes

Internal indicators - these range from anything like bloatedness, allergies, headaches, through to any of your medical diagnoses.

Most of us only really start to look at our health when we start getting signs and symptoms. If we don't take action then the symptoms often stay around and for some just get worse. Once you have your health goals written down what next?

Are you going to self medicate or take some expert advice and guidance? There are many things you could choose from - read around the subject, start to change your diet, find a practitioner to work with, go on a retreat, take up exercise or find a meditation class. You decide what and then decide when would you like to start.

If you need inspiration drop into the Walk In Clinic and visit me one Friday.

Which Remedy?

There are so many good ones on the market but which one is the best to go for...

Want to Slow Down Ageing?

L-Carnosine is the latest anti-ageing product taking America by storm. It is a natural product made up of the amino acids beta-alanine and L-histidine. We generally have high levels of carnosine in our bodies but it decreases with age. L-Carnosine helps slows the carbonylation process (the age related degradation of the body's proteins) and also prevents loss of elasticity and wrinkles. It also acts as a potent anti-oxidant, scavenging the harmful free radicals in our body and helps to flush toxins from the body.

There are various forms of Carnosine on the market. There is one called Ethos Endymion which is in a powder form and is a high pure form. More information here.

I was also interested that the Russian's use carnosine in an eye-drop form to help eradicate senile cataract problems with great success. This type of carnosine eye-drop similarly has very important anti-aging eye functions because it is breaking the protein cross-links, not just inhibiting them. They type of L-carnosine used by the Russians is a 'special' kind known as N-alpha acetylcarnosine or NAC for this purpose. More info here

Button Pushers

Inspirational Life Coach, Aviva Baran shares her wisdom to keep us all engaged with our inner sparkle.

aviva baranHave you noticed that certain people seem to have a habit of pushing your buttons?! Or so it seemed! Before I knew it I would feel irritated, angry, fearful etc. I realized that I had been trying to avoid 'those sorts of people!' Yet, then I'd meet another and another!

So, I set on a journey to really understand myself, and others. A journey of going to therapy (of different types), reading books on transformation and going on numerous courses and workshops from emotional intelligence to cognitive- behavioural psychology, from metaphysics to meditation. It became a discovery of truth. And now as an ex-therapist, a Life and Business Coach, Trainer and Workshop Facilitator, I continue this journey, by helping others to actualize their truths.

One of my discoveries about 'button pushers' is that they are here to teach us lessons. They show us the hidden parts of ourselves; that trait, which we have to a greater or lesser degree, somehow disowned because we judge it to be 'bad' in some way. There is no avoiding them!

It's time to turn the magnifying glass into a mirror!
