Sparkle at an Event

If you’re preparing for an important function like a wedding you will undoubtedly want to look your best. Getting through the pressure of what to wear and how you want to look at the same time as organising the event doesn’t leave much time for you to work on that healthy glow you wish to exude.

One aspect of my work is to help people get healthy and look great before a major event. This has to be done on the inside and out, so it is essential to start early. One of the first questions to address is what are the main things you wish to achieve? Is it weight loss, to improve the condition of your hair and skin, minimise the effects of nerves and stress or is it to reduce symptoms such as headaches or insomnia.

Getting the body into shape is probably the one issue you want to give the most time to. Embarking on an exercise programme may get you started but make sure, ladies, you don’t over do it and end up looking like a wrestler. Go for the feminine rather than the masculine look!

Planning your nutrition so that you also manage your food intolerances is vital. What you don’t want to do is eat foods that bloat you or take away your energy before your big day. Also you don’t want to starve so that you put your blood sugars out of balance and then you start to crave for quick fixes. You want a nutritional programme that gives you energy, vitality and keeps you balanced.

Some of us focus so heavily on the worse case scenario and the “what ifs” that we forget to get on with enjoying the event. Knowing that stress plays havoc on the body and can worsen your symptoms, controlling this is essential. I encourage people to break down their fears and begin to look at what it is that is bothering them. One client preparing for her wedding came to me wanting to go through a number of issues. In particular she was terrified how she would look and the condition of her skin. We put together a comprehensive programme to deal with her skin herbally and nutritionally and then looked at what would give her confidence to know she looked good. I recommended that she trial her hair and make up now, just as she would like it rather than a few weeks before the event, then to take lots of digital photographs and analyse not only her look, but her expressions, attitude and smile! We also discussed how she could control her mind talk before the event too. This helped her enormously and managed to alleviate her constant worry which was draining her and putting undue pressure on her body.

Get to know when you feel your best. What is it that your friends or colleagues notice when they say “you look fantastic?” Is it the smile, the glint in the eye, you looking relaxed and happy? One thing for sure is the radiance we search for comes from within and there is no one better placed to bring it alive than yourself.
